It was nice of C.C. to open this for us. I was like those who do not want the CWP, and the Jumble to be mixed together, and yet people wanted to talk about them both. I got confused about which subject they were writing.
I use the hint tab to check my letter selection when I'm having a problem. On today's J, word 3, I put ed at the end, and soon found that that was wrong.
Word 1, 2, and 4 came easy
On the solution, I can't remember whether I needed a hint, but I got it without difficulty.
Well, I wrote and posted my poems before I read CC's note to come here. I guess this is where my second l'ick belonged.

I always appreciate that you sign your work and with such boldness. Also you skip a line and highlight with a fancy dash just make sure no one is uncertain as to who wrote it. Although blogger tries to take care of that by announcing who's post is following by stating your name and avatar with the date time already. Thanks for that. Dont need any confusion as to what Keith has to say.
BOY! Every day is a surprise. I've always had trouble with anagrams - on Jeapordy I'm still trying to figure out the first one when they finish running the category. But sometimes I just look at a Jumble word for a few seconds and it pops out. That's rare - often I have to open a text file and put them in alphabetical order, separate vowels & consonants, and try to make words starting with each letter. If I'm lucky the answer will show itself after a few tries, but lots of times it seems I fill the page and occasionally even try all possible options without finding it. Today the first 2 came fairly quickly but I had to do some analysis on the two 6 letter words. Had to think long and hard to get the solution. Started by trying to think of all the possible 4 letter words and then seeing if I could make anything of the 8 remaining ones. Finally - sheesh!
Just got back from a long day of errands and an eye doctor visit, and am exhausted. I got all four answers for the Jumble, but can't get that long 8 letter reveal on the bottom. Any helpful clues would be greatly appreciated.

I got to the Jumble late today; besides unpacking, cooking dinner, etc., we are planning a family party for June/July birthdays so all that takes time though I'm not totally involved in the preparations.
When finally I saw the J, all the words came together quickly. My mind works strangely: seeing the letters spread out my brain automatically starts sorting them and usually they fall in place like today. The final answer took a while longer but then I saw all the vowels, O, O, U then G and H and THOROUGH popped out. The final FARE was easy.
When reading Owen's poem I failed to notice that last line.

I went a-hunting, and so far I Lassoed in a holler a black magpie! But in the dust and grime It was nearly a crime -- I sure am glad for my roping dead-eye!
It matters not how many comment there are. Today's are at the bottom.
I found each of your clues to be cleverly woven.
#1 - I used a hint for the first letter. Then I was able to round up the word, Yee Haw!
#2 - This one came clean.
#3 - This one just fell into place
#4 - Again a hint for the first letter allowed me to bag the big game.
Solution - The first word could be only two words, and of course I chose the wrong one. Hint corrected that. I use hint to see if I have chosen the correct letter. It corrected the first letter of the last word, and I too saw land sure enough.

Wow! Long Jumble this morning with six items and a 17 letter answer. Didn't think I was ever going to get this one, but miraculously, it all fell into place. Got all the clue answers, and Bingo! got the reveal as well. Hope everyone else had the same satisfying experience!

Thanks for asking, Wilbur. Eyes not yet improved, but got a prescription medication that I tried for the first time today. So hopefully in the next week, things will get better.

Well, this morning's Jumble was as easy as this morning's crossword. I got all four words without any problem. Then it took me a couple tries to get the resolve, and then Voila! I got it! I really struggled with this morning's Jumble, even though I go all four words without any problems at all. But it took me forever--and help from Owen's poem--before the light finally dawned and I got it! Huge relief, and let me know if you need additional help, anybody.
Misty, I too thought the final would be tough. But then I thought some of the four prelims would be tough, and they weren't. So, thus emboldened, I stuck with my usual method. First, try to pin down the small word first - in this case the 2-letter opener. Usually there is a limit to what the small words can be, an article maybe or a preposition. Today, neither made sense according to the partial lead-in sentence. So I looked for other possibilities, but came up empty (for a while). Next, see what others words leap out from the assorted letters. There was a "Z" starting at me, a curiously rare letter (as with "Q," "J," "K," and "V," whenever they appear). And - Bam! - the final 4-letter word popped into the Ol' Walnut as if by magic. From there, I sought out the "ing" ending that often precedes that last "Z" word. And Lo! there it was.
Many thanks, Ol'Man Keith: your procedure is actually exactly the one I followed and how I got the puzzle answer--a huge relief. Thanks for explaining it, not just for me, but for others as well.
I'll be out for much of the day tomorrow, so not sure I'll be able to do the Jumble and check in. But if not, I'll try to catch up on Thursday.

Knowing that word, and seeing the quote marks around the first word I knew it would be a pun or homonym. The cartoon led me to fill in those blanks, and it was easy enough then to insert the missing letters in the unfinished prelims.

Well, I have to admit that I think I got today's Jumble resolve even without getting the fourth answer, and with just a good guess. But we'll have to see tomorrow if I was right or not. Have a great evening, everybody!

Ol'Man Keith, no, I goofed on yesterday's puzzle because I didn't get JIGSAW and had "Ride Side" for the answer instead of "Ride Idea." And, sadly, I didn't get this morning's Jumble either because I wasn't able to sort out SURBAD, although I got the other three words. Any hints would be appreciated, although it's going on supper time and I'm not sure I'll be able to work on it much more tonight. I just hope they're not starting to make the Jumbles harder as the week goes on, like the crossword puzzles. I need something I can do at the end of the week!

But then came this morning's Jumble, and this time I got all four answers without any problems, but am still struggling with the long final answer. Ol'Man Keith, no, I goofed on yesterday's puzzle because I didn't get JIGSAW and had "Ride Side" for the answer instead of "Ride Idea." And, sadly, I didn't get this morning's Jumble either because I wasn't able to sort out SURBAD, although I got the other three words. Any hints would be appreciated, although it's going on supper time and I'm not sure I'll be able to work on it much more tonight. I just hope they're not starting to make the Jumbles harder as the week goes on, like the crossword puzzles. I need something I can do at the end of the week!

ReplyDeleteBut then came this morning's Jumble, and this time I got all four answers without any problems, but am still struggling with the long final answer. I'm guessing those first three letters will be a negative of some sort--and I can think of two possibilities, but not sure which one to choose. And then I get stuck. So if anyone has any advice or hints to give me that would be great. I'm sure it has to relate to Pharmaceutical--but how? I'll keep working at it, and look forward to any help you all can give me.

Today's (Friday's) J nearly did me in - all because I so wanted the last word to be LEGAL. It certainly seemed to fit the cartoon & lead-in sentence.
ReplyDeleteAnd part of the problem is that I wanted the first three letters to be NOT, as that seemed to fit perfectly with LEGAL. But I need to learn to give up clinging to a favorite part of the final answer.
My main hint now is that the final word is not LEGAL.
The first 3-letter word has to do with the condition of this corrupt druggist's customers.
